It was Restaurant Week in the Twin Cities!
Restaurant Week happens in Minneapolis/St. Paul from a Monday - Thursday at the end of October. The Mpls St. Paul Magazine is where you want to go to find the list of over 40 participants, their price fixed menus and cost. After perusing all of the $15 three course dinner menu options I narrowed it down to Joe's Garage in Minneapolis.
Contrary to what it looks like in the crappy iphone at night photo below, Joe's Garage is not in the ghetto; its across from Loring Park.
Side note: When we eat out we always offer each other bites of our food to try. I am a HORRIBLE food sharer, if I wanted what you have I would have ordered it myself. But, I am learning so I offer Jerod bites of mine. He always gets frustrated because I pull whatever I am offering him back towards me while he is mid bite. Makes him looks like a baby with his mouth open trying to lean across the table.
That was after she found her way through the dark to our hobbit hole in the corner.
Jerod ordered fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. I thought his was going to be bland, a flop and too safe of a choice. I was wrong. His was salty, savory and probably the best fried chicken with gravy I've had.
And no, I don't know why I posed my fingers like that for the photo.
And yes, I do have a lazy eye, thats why one shows up with more red eye than the other sometimes.
Now you know something new about me.
This is no ordinary shortcake people. The sweet biscuit was almost a little bitter which paired perfectly with the mascapone dollop and caramelized cream. Drizzled over the top is raspberry sauce and then fresh strawberries. A bite of all of it together came across as a blend of tart and sweet.
Jerod tried to sneak a bite in the dark but that lazy eye of mine gives me excellent night vision. Nice try mister!
